Reimagining classic fairytales through a modern lens, the exhibition casts Hansel, Gretel, and the iconic wolf as covert, underground operatives navigating a dense secretive forest. Equipped with cameras, reel-to-reel tape recorders, and surveillance tools, the figures stand as watchful counter-informants alongside their animal allies, finding shelter within the woods while turning the gaze back on those who watch us.
Siems' striking paintings tap into contemporary anxieties surrounding pervasic digital and physical surveillance--from street cameras to data tracking--offering a haunting reflection on modern life's eroded sense of privacy, autonomy, and personal agency.
